Meet Oscar!

(New name "Luke")

We brought Luke home to be part of our family on April 23rd. It was a great day for our family. We wanted our Doberman mix (Lily) to have a little brother to play with. Luke was the perfect choice for us, although “little” doesn’t apply to Luke. He’s only 7 months old and already weighs 68 pounds.

For the first couple of days, Luke and Lily tested each other but Luke quickly accepted that Lily was older and wiser and therefore the “boss”. But, that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t take care of himself. He has learned how to carry 2-3 rawhide strips in his mouth at one time so that Lily can’t get them from him. He has also learned how to distract her so that he can swipe chew toys that he wants.

Luke’s favorite sleeping position is on top of me. That way he can lay his head on my shoulder. He’s the biggest, cuddliest baby I’ve ever seen. He loves to snuggle and will spend hours just laying on us.

We have a farm in the western part of the state and Luke loves roaming through the woods and playing in the creek with his big sister. He helps his “Dad” plant things. My husband plants them and Luke digs them up again. Apparently they weren’t planted exactly right the first time.

Adopting a rescue Doberman is the most wonderful thing a person can do. Why track down breeders and spend a fortune when there are so many wonderful dogs out there that need loving homes. If you are thinking about adopting a rescue Doberman, take it from someone who now has two, it’s the only way to go!

Thanks, Ellen, for keeping Luke for us until we could find him. He’s the perfect addition to our family. We love him very much.
