Meet Kayla!

When I began fostering for N.C. Dobe Rescue in the fall of 2001, I knew that there would be a very real danger that I would want to adopt all the dogs myself. Well, I succumbed to temptation my very first time at bat :-)
Kayla came to me in early September, 2001 needing help. She had been taken in as a stray ... very thin, covered in ticks and with a large open wound around her neck where a filthy collar was embedded. She immediately stole my heart but was so devastatingly shy that it was several days after she came into my home
before she would let me touch her. She spent most of her time those first days cowering across the room.....frightened to death. Six months

later, her physical wounds had healed and, although she was still very shy, she did bond with me. No one called with any interest in adopting Kayla. On Valentine's Day, 2002, I decided to give myself a "love" present and I formally adopted Kayla.
She is now a pudgy, happy Dobergirl who loves everybody she meets. The other fosters who come to stay with us to recuperate from their physical and emotional wounds before going to their forever homes can always count on Kayla to show them the ropes and give them lots of guidance on how to adjust to the "good" life and how to play.
Kayla is a true canine foster mom! She will be loved all of her days.
